When Grace Lands on My Keyboard
Drops of Grace — Monday, October 26, 2026
My drop of Grace today comes courtesy of a feline snuggle intervention.
My soul sister Rachel, the cat, has taken to jumping up on the table and laying herself across my computer keyboard whenever she decides it's time for me to have a snuggle break.
Her timing and my idea of when I can take a break usually differ. However, I happily defer to her judgment in this matter.
Cats are remarkably intuitive, and it is often in moments of my greatest frustration that Rachel will appear and lay herself, quite literally, across my laptop keyboard, preventing me from continuing my work.
Once I've shifted into petting mode, she will often snuggle me, kiss my face or fingers, and remind me that there is more to life than whatever perceived struggle I'm having at that moment.
In these moments, I'm reminded how easily the cosmic and the ordinary collide.
As I try to reconcile my awareness of consciousness throughout the universe, in all its grandeur, with the day-to-day responsibilities of paid work and things like doing the dishes, I find a paradox. And within that paradox, sometimes there is frustration.
I'm so grateful for the Grace Rachel helps me access in these moments. As I pause to breathe, look deeply into her eyes, pet her, kiss her on the head, and let her return the affection, I can feel my nervous system begin to settle.
Suddenly, it becomes possible to stop being upset and even laugh a little at the irony of the whole thing.
I didn't always feel the Grace of life.
For a long time, I carried the mistaken belief that the universe was not a safe place and that I needed to remain on guard and vigilant to ensure I had the best experience possible with the least amount of hassle.
As you might imagine, this was quite stressful and rarely produced the intended outcome.
But something has shifted.
When I allow laughter to bubble up, when I welcome a cat who has decided to lay herself across my keyboard (often giving me an ironic blink when I ask what she's up to), I find that life becomes a little more joyful.
Perhaps Grace isn't something we need to seek. Perhaps it is always present, quietly waiting for us to notice. Sometimes it takes something as simple as a cat stretching herself across our carefully laid plans to interrupt our habitual patterns and remind us of the Grace that surrounds us, even in the most ordinary moments.
Here are a few questions to ponder:
What do you do in those moments of upset, stress, or overwhelm when you catch yourself caught up in them?
Do you notice drops of Grace arriving through the animals or people around you?
Or are there other ways that Grace flows into your life, perhaps at precisely the moments you need it most?
Welcome to Drops of Grace
Welcome to Drops of Grace, a space where I'll be sharing moments of everyday life, personal reflections, and explorations of the extraordinary within the ordinary.
Some entries may be brief glimpses of Grace in unexpected moments. Others may wander into deeper reflections on consciousness, awareness, and what it means to live with a greater sense of connection to ourselves, each other, and the universe.
Through it all, my intention is to explore the Grace that is always present, even when we forget to notice it.
I invite you to join me in discovering these moments in your own life.
